Personal Statement

My name is Ines Pereira and I am currently studying on a two year UAL Extended Diploma (Level 3) course in Art and Design at West Thames College in Isleworth. Whilst on the course, I have developed new knowledge and new skills in creative subjects including areas of Graphic Design, Fine Art and 3D. In graphic design I have designed a logo for a T-Shirt using the Adobe InDesign and Photoshop software using the Apple Mac and Windows 8 computer. In Fine Art, I have developed my observational drawing skills using techniques such as tone, like and cross hatching. I have sketched in a variety of materials such as pencil, charcoal and ink. In 3D, I have constructed a small scale model using different materials as cardboard, card, plastic. The idea was to create a shoe based on an architectural building/architect.

 

Next year I would like to do 3d design which I would like to focus on doing. Every artists has weakness and my weakness is drawing faces and animals, I can draw it, but isn't good as my other drawings can be. Those weaknesses that I have mentioned I would like to improve it next year, because an artist should be able to draw everything. I admire the work of Tom Kundig as he designs houses thinking about the impact on nature, he uses natural materials as rocks from the site where the house will be built. It is really important that an architect thinks about the impact that the building will have in the nature and also the people around. 

 

When I complete the qualification in a year’s time, I would like to study/work in the field of Architecture or Interior Design.

I would like to apply for a place on the B.A. Architecture at Westminster University because it looks like a good University.  Also because it gives structured work experience during the course that prepares me for work in practice. The course also offers excellent career prospects. What can make me a good candidate is that I am really confident of the works I do.
